"One of the things I love most about the practice of meditation is that it I find it a reductive process. Instead of adding more and more complexity as we normally commit to in life, meditation seems to keep moving me towards a mysterious place. I believe that this mystery comes from the disjunction between the way our mind usually works (intellect and problem solving) and is slowly carried by a non-symbolic consciousness outside of language. It’s just experience itself, unfolding, and the deeper we get into that the less us or I there is.

I’m a big fan of contemporary cognitive science that suggests our perception does not equal reality. That instead we’re living in a tunnel that gears us towards fitness and procreation which includes the constructs of time, space, and self. So I feel like this deep mystery that starts to become us through the process of meditation is perhaps a more accurate account of existence. Or in the least a dimension of such.

But! The door to the mystery of transcendence is paradoxically the solid us. It’s our sense modalities (sight, sound, touch), our emotions, even our sense of 'I am that.' Heart practices are also important, compassion and loving kindness for self and others. Why does this matter? Two reasons; one, we don’t want to be an enlightened jerk face (which can happen). And two, on the way to the transcendence, being a solid 'I am' can be tough or hurt. So some peoples along the way got the smart idea to cultivate techniques of love and safe harbor to carry us down the path and keep our awakenings kind.

In this recording carried collaboratively between myself and my favorite vibrational duo Electric Sound Bath, I layout a two pronged approach (or two sided in this case) for investigating 'reality' through the senses, and cultivating the heart. These practice have been handed down to me, and if you feel like taking them with you, it’s passed to you too."
